Impressioni
Siamo di fronte ad una super compilation del mitico Dizzy Gillespie, uno dei più grandi trombettisti jazz del mondo.
Pioniere del bepop già a partire dal 1940, Dizzy, in queste registrazioni, che partono dal 1964, riesce a trasmettere il meglio delle sue performance.
La maggior parte delle selezioni riflettono il desiderio di Gillespie di far condividere la sua notevole esperienza e conoscenza nel campo del jazz latino.
Si rimane sempre incantati dinanzi ai famosi brani "Salt Peanuts" e "Swing Low Sweet Cadillac," a motivo degli stupendi virtuosismi dei musicisti.
Da sottolineare anche la presenza del Chitarrista Ed Cherry che si rende un ottimo interlocutore del tromebettista Dizzy.
Infatti gli assoli alla chitarra, con una chiarezza cristallina, ben si armonizzano con la profondità della band.
Altro musicista da ricordare è Sayyd Abdul Al-Khabyyr, già un veterano di swing e bebop, che, al momento di queste registrazioni, integra la personalità musicale di Gillespie con melodie di flauto e sassofono fluide e dinamiche.
Anche al sassofono contralto, caratterizzato da un bebop pungente, Abdul Al-Khabyyr offre alla band assoli spontanei che aggiungono forza incommensurabile alle sessioni.
Emozionanti sono i suoi interventi con il flauto in "Land Of Milk And Honey" e i suoi "lamenti" irrestibili al sassofono su "Swing Low dolce Cadillac."
Non sorprende poi la interpretazione superba "Girl from Ipanema", con una tenerezza tutta speciale.
La musica di Dizzy Gillespie è raccolta nella sua forma migliore in questi 10 CD.
Il repertorio del trombettista è caratterizzato, in questi brani, dalle sue tipiche melodie sempre in via di sviluppo con accenni di tema Blues.
"Salt Peanuts" è il pezzo scintillante che da il nome alla compilation e il vecchio standby "A Night in Tunisia" regala la vera essenza musicale del lavoro.
Il quintetto dei musicisti offre un ensemble di assoluta qualità con l'evidenza di assoli superlativi nei vari strumenti.
Il risultato, a mio avviso, è un opera di grande pregio con un numero notevole di brani che presentano buona parte del repertorio del jazz latino.
I CD si possono ascoltare in rete comodamente su Spotify e gustarne le superbe sonorità.
